FENAY BRIDGE racer Kyle Smith will be looking for a ‘home’ boost in the next round of the Moto2 championship campaign.

The 21-year-old, whose family have been based in Spain since he was seven, will head to the MotoGP calendar’s sixth meeting of the season looking to impress on a track he knows well.

Barcelona’s Circuit De Catalunya hosts the next round on June 16 and Smith will want to build on a showing in last weekend’s last round at Italian track Mugello, which started as frustrating but ultimately became a bit of a bonus.

The Alicante-based racer is in his first season riding for the Avintia Blusens Honda, and he struggled in qualifying and was down in 31st position and on the back row of grid come race time.

However, Smith showed his battling qualities on the track and managed to finish in a credible 21st position one place ahead of fellow British rider Danny Kent riding the Tech 3 Yamaha.

Having stayed on with the team to test in Italy, Smith was heading back to Spain today to begin preparations for Barcelona.
