DENBY DALE racer Tom Tunstall is more than pleased with his pre-season testing for the coming British Superbike season.

Tunstall and the Doodson Motorsport team returned to their base in Huddersfield last week having made very good progress throughout their pre-season testing with back to back tests at Cartagena and Guadix in Spain.

The first day at the Cartagena circuit brought ideal conditions with a dry track and temperatures in the mid 20’s.

After a long winter off from riding the Honda CBR1000RR Tunstall was eager to get back on track and said: “It’s fantastic to be back on a race bike after six months.

“I got back into it fairly quickly and we started to work on our test plan – starting with riding position.

“It was a case of going backwards to go forwards – initially it didn’t feel too good and it pushed the front too hard but we changed the balance and I was able to get the time back down plus we know it certainly has the potential to go faster.

“The new engine and Arrow Exhausts are a big improvement and the hard work over the winter months has paid off.

“I’m only around a second off my fastest lap around here and considering we’ve been using a part worn tyre I’m happy with how it’s going.”

With temperatures reducing over the four-day test the Doodson Motorsport team were keen to put in the laps.

Day two saw Tunstall already matching his personal best times around the 3.5mile track near Murcia.

After overcoming problems with a broken radiator on day three, the Yorkshireman posted a string of consistent times faster than he had ever done around the circuit before.

Following the success of their Spanish tests the team plan to continue their progress at a number of single date UK tests before the British Superbike Championships kicks off at the opening round at Brands Hatch on Easter weekend.
