Huddersfield racer Daniel Lloyd, right, hopes to launch the second half of his season with a couple of podium finishes at Snetterton 300 Circuit in Norfolk this weekend.
That’s when the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship resumes today and tomorrow. on Saturday and Sunday.
Currently fourth in the driver standings, with one race win and four other podiums to his credit, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar endured dire misfortune at Croft in North Yorkshire five weeks ago when on-track incidents in both encounters robbed him of two strong results.
Ahead of Snetterton, where he claimed a top four finish last year in his debut season in the category, the Team Parker Racing driver is just 12 points shy of the championship top three and is determined to put the previous two rounds behind him by adding to his 2013 trophy collection.
“Croft was a tough weekend, not through any fault of our own either which made it all the more frustrating really,” said Lloyd.
“I really do want to start the second half of the season with at least one podium, if things go according to plan in qualifying then there’s no reason we shouldn’t be able to fight for the top three in both races.”
During the five weeks since the Croft event, the 21-year-old has been keeping busy through his work as a race instructor and also with an appearance at the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed as a representative of Porsche Cars GB.
As well as meeting and greeting Porsche enthusiasts and members of the public, 150,000 of which attended the world-renowned event across four days, Lloyd took part in a variety of activities.
The undoubted highlight was the ultra-rare chance to pilot the 1998 Le Mans 24 Hours-winning Porsche 911 GT1-98, a car worth in excess of £1.5m!
He was also entered, for the second year in succession, in the competitive ‘Hillclimb’ at Lord March’s estate. Just like in 2012, the West Yorkshireman progressed comfortably into the ‘Shoot-Out’ finale and posted the sixth fastest time up the 1.16-mile course – an effort of 48.36sec at the wheel of his Porsche 911 GT3 from the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship.
“Goodwood was absolutely mega and it was a real honour being there again representing Porsche”, he reflected, “The whole event is massive, I had a fantastic time and I was pretty pleased to be top six again in the Hillclimb. Maybe next year I’ll be lucky enough to go back for another crack at it.”
