THE Huddersfield Falcons managed to beat the weather to stage their second novice and beginners trial at Kirby Wood.

A field of 31 riders competed in four classes, but the Flockton venue had been hit by a fair amount of rain the previous week.

However, Mick Rock and Andy Hirst located eight good sections and four laps were crammed in before the light failed.

Ian Blackburn headed Trevor Shingler and Chris Tolson on the hard course, where young William Tolson popped in a nice ride to win Class C and finish fifth overall.

Mark Farrar took the green course after Richard Dodson dropped a dozen marks in section where Bob Tyas was on observer duty.

No surprise that Class B boy Aaron Goodlad topped the easy course on a Beta from over forties winner Andrew Fletcher.

Round three will take place at Harrop Court, Diggle on Sunday (11am).
