WATCH out for James Lodge!
The 19-year-old from Brockholes is following hot in the slipstream of Tom Sykes and Tom Tunstall and competing at the top end of the British 125cc championship with the KRP team.
That’s the series from which the World Superbike and British Superbike Cup aces graduated, and Lodge is aiming to do well this season after finishing fourth in the opening round at Brands Hatch.
That performance earned him valuable points towards a wild card for the British Grand Prix at Donington Park in June – the top five 125 riders get to compete – and gave him a big confidence boost for the next round at Oulton Park on May 4.
“I’m really looking forward to Oulton as it’s one of my favourite tracks,” said the University of Manchester chemistry student who is sponsored by Earnshaws Motorcycles.
“At Brands, I qualified sixth on the grid after a technical issue with the bike during the second qualifying session.
“A bad start then left me fighting from 12th place after the first lap, but I managed to put in the second fastest lap time in the race and work my way up to fourth, just missing out on a podium finish.
“Now, I’m hoping to improve on that result at Oulton.”
Sixth overall in the British Championship last season, Lodge is from a family of racers.
His brother, Jonathan (22) started in 2004 and James followed a year later.
As they gained experience they moved up from club racing to the ACU Dunlop Motostart national 125GP Championship in 2006 and 2007.
