HUDDERSFIELD Racer Mark Davies continued his impressive start to the 2012 Ginetta series, with two victories in the third meeting of the season increasing his lead in the rankings.

Davies, driving for the Grantham-based race team Richardson Racing, picked up his victories in the G50 class at Hampshire circuit Thruxton.

In poor weather conditions, Davies was pleased to have conquered a fast and treacherous track as well as his rivals.

Davies qualified in pole and proved to be the driver to beat in the opening, leading both races throughout their entirety to add two more victories to his name.

However, the decision to go with a dry set-up for the third and final race worked against him and, having led the class through the early laps, Davies was unable to hold off the challenge of his rivals behind and slipped down to third at the finish.

Despite that, the triple podium means he has extended his lead to 42 points.

“I’ve extended my lead again which is important for the championship,” said Davies.

“Race one was good and in race two, the car was perfect for the conditions although it was tricky with a lot of standing water on the track.

“We went with a dry set-up for race three which was the wrong call and I think I would have won again if we had not taken the gamble.”

However, he is in confident mood as the team head for the fourth event of the season at Cheshire’s Oulton Park next month.

“Oulton Park is next, which is the closest thing I have to a home circuit, and I’m looking forward to it,” said Davies.
