JAMES LODGE retained his British title as the Huddersfield racer again provided the highlight of the motorsport season.

It took until the final race of the season for the 21-year-old to claim the SpeedyRetail.com British 125GP championship title for the second year running.

He went into the showdown at Oulton Park just seven points ahead of his main challenger Rob Guiver, but did enough to ensure he retained the crown.

Lodge is already looking to step up to the bigger bikes next term and could well team up with his brother Jonathan.

There was a positive end to the season for Jonathan with a strong showing in Anglesey followed by a fifth place finish in the final meeting at Oulton Park in the Metzeler National Superstock 600 Championship.

For Huddersfield’s Tom Sykes the penultimate World Superbike round at Imola brought the highlight of his season.

Sykes rated his performance on the Italian track as ‘a dream’ as he recorded his best results of the season.

The 25-year-old Kawasaki Racing star made the most of his maiden pole position in the class – finishing sixth and fourth respectively in Italy.

Sykes endured a frustrating season on the world stage but moved up to 14th place in the championship standings with his Italian exploits.

The British Superbikes season also finished on a high for Denby Dale racer Tom Tunstall.

The season finale saw the Doodson Motorsport racer take his best results of the year, with a 12th and 13th place finish for Tunstall.

“It was a tough season for us, and we had our fair share of bad luck,” said Tunstall. “We’re already looking to build and come back stronger next year.”
