Netherton racer Josh Caygill backed up his pre-season form with a strong showing in the opening round of the Audi Sport TT Cup.

The 26-year-old departed Hockenheim in Germany delighted with his impressive start to the 2016 season rounding out the opening meeting with sixth place in the championship.

Taking a best finish of fifth place in round one, Caygill backed it up with a top six result in round two and laid some strong foundations on which to build his second campaign in the category.

“I’m really happy to be fair, it’s been a great weekend and a good way to start the season”, said Caygill.

“Fifth in the first race was a good result, I actually drove better in the second race, but I got a bit held up over the first couple of laps.

“We’ve been in the top six the best part of the meeting, which is a big step forward from last year, and we’ve been consistently there on merit.”

The next round of the Audi Sport TT Cup schedule is a visit to the Nurburgring over the weekend of May 28-29 where Caygill will look to add to his 27 points tally.

“It’s nice to start the year so positively,” added Caygill. “I’m driving more maturely and much more controlled races and that’s delivered two strong results.

“There isn’t a lot between any of us to be honest, it looks like being a mega close championship and it’s definitely the most positive start to a season I’ve had.”
