HUDDERSFIELD racing driver Daniel Lloyd has been signed up again by Porsche GB.

The news confirms the 20-year-old’s place on the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship grid next year.

Named as the German manufacturer’s Cup GB Scholar last November, Lloyd has earned his 2013 backing with some impressive displays – winning in only his sixth race at the wheel of his Team Parker Racing Porsche 911GT3 Cup car. He remains fifth in the overall championship standings

“It came out of the blue – it’s just unbelievable and, in a way, better than winning the Scholarship itself”, said Lloyd. “Porsche GB took a chance with me at the end of last year and now this amazing opportunity they’ve given me for 2013 proves hard work pays off.

“It makes me really proud to know the people at Porsche feel I’ve done a good job in the first 10 races and that they want to give me another opportunity for next year.

“It takes the pressure off in some ways – as long as we can raise the rest of the budget we know we’ll be back and it definitely sets a good foundation for the rest of 2012.”

The decision by Porsche GB to support Lloyd for another year, with a second £80,000 bursary, marks the first time in the history of the Scholarship programme such a move has been made.

Their motorsport manager, Marion Barnaby, said: “Our experience shows young drivers coming into the Carrera Cup GB really need to have a two-year programme in the championship before they’re ready to step up, hopefully into the Porsche Mobil Supercup.”

Lloyd’s package of support also includes continuing a tailored training programme at Porsche’s Human Performance Centre at Silverstone.

Lloyd added: “Never one year previously have we known what we were going to do, or where we were going to be the following season.

“This is the first time in my career I’ll have a second successive year in the same type of car and same championship, and that’s really exciting.

“I’m so grateful to Porsche for everything they’ve done and to all my sponsors for their fantastic support.

“I’ve had some amazing experiences so far this year. Racing in the (Porsche Mobil 1) Supercup at the British Grand Prix and appearing on behalf of Porsche at Goodwood Festival of Speed were massive highlights.

“Hopefully we can take more podiums and wins before the end of the year to set us up well for a big title push in 2013.”
