ASHENHURST racer Dijon Compton goes into this weekend’s Cadwell Park meeting looking for the points that can earn him the 2011 Harley Davidson XR1200 crown.

The 33-year-old had headed the rankings before the last rounds at Brands Hatch, but remains confident that he can still grab the title with two meetings remaining.

Having been taken up by the Volvo Trucks Harley-Davidson team, after the demise of the Leeds franchise with whom he had started the season, and with time to test his new bike at the Lincolnshire circuit, Compton will be aiming to put pressure on the leaders.

Blade Motorsport rider James Webb currently leads the way with 126 points, but Stratstone Racing’s Peter Ward trails him by just 12 points and then comes Compton on 107.

Brands was a mixed blessing for Compton as he collected 20 points for second place in race one but then clutch problems denied him a finish in the second race.

“I am optimistic, to be fair,” said Compton, after his Brands Hatch experience. “There has been a chance top test the bike at Cadwell and I just have to go there and give it a go.”

Racing at Cadwell carries on into Monday as postponed previous rounds come into play – and that will include a chance for Holmfirth racer Joe Irving to improve his impressive debut season standings in the SUNOCO British 125GP championship and ACU Academy Cup.

The teenager has a chance to improve his rankings as he goes to Louth just six points outside a top five place in the championship and just nine points away from breaking in to the top three in the Academy Cup.

Another Holmfirth rider, Jonathan Lodge, will be looking to build on a promising round at Brands when he collected seven points towards his season’s tally in the Metzeler National Superstock 600 championship.

And while there were no points for Netherton’s Josh Caygill last time out, he was happier with the performance of his MAP Triumph at Brands.
