ROBERT READ travels to Stockton-on-Tees tomorrow to tackle Richie Beckham in the quarter-finals of the National CIU Snooker Tournament (7.30).
The Lindley WMC player and Huddersfield Open champion goes into the hotbed of snooker and billiards at Buffs Social Club, aiming to reach the semi-finals for the second time in his career.
He already knows it will be a tough ask, having seen Beckham up close the previous week, when Read was a member of the Halifax-based King Cross side who lost to Beckham’s team in the National CIU Team championship.
Read is also through to the quarter-finals of the Yorkshire Snooker Championship (the only Huddersfield player to get beyond the first round) having won all his three qualifiers without dropping a single frame.
In the opener he beat Wakefield’s Mark Ramsbottom, and followed up with wins of Nathan McLean (Leeds) and Doncaster’s Tony Buckley, to set up a last eight place, in mid-April, which will take place n the ex-world championship table at Leeds’ Northern Snooker Centre.
