RICHARD POULAIN has resigned as secretary of AFC Emley.

The 60-year-old former Football League referee has been replaced until the end of the season by committeeman John Whitehead.

“Richard has a lot of professional and personal commitments and felt he needed to step down as secretary,” said club spokesman Richard Hazelden.

“Everyone at AFC Emley wishes Richard all the best in whatever he does and we thank him most sincerely for all the time, effort and expertise he has put in at the Welfare Ground.

“He was instrumental in helping re-form the club back in Emley with a team of people under current chairman Graham Roys, when his knowledge and enthusiasm were a boon to the whole project.

“For the moment, John Whitehead is taking on the secretarial duties with help from the committee and we’ll have another look at things when we get to the end of the season.

“There are 10 games left starting at Glasshoughton on Saturday and we’ve got our annual meeting in June, so we’ve got time to assess everything and plan positively for the future – hopefully in the NCE Premier Division.”
