ABBY-MAE Parkinson and Jake Womersley each secured the cyclo-cross North of England Championship titles in their respective categories in Doncaster.

The championships were held in the park surrounding the Keepmoat Stadium and provided all competitors with a technically challenging course with hills, descents and lots of waterlogged depressions to battle through.

In the Youth Girls race Parkinson (RST) made an excellent start but suffered a mechanical near the end of the first lap and had to change her bike.

By the halfway stage she was back in contention and overtook the leaders – Henrietta Colbourne (Beacon Wheelers) and Kim Baptista (Eastlands Velo) – to power her way to victory by almost a full lap.

Throughout the Junior Men’s race Womersley (Sportscover Altura) battled it out with Michael Thompson (TES Richardson) and until the last couple of laps it looked a difficult one to call.

However, Womersley kept the pressure on with some intelligent and determined riding through the technical areas to take the win by at least 20 seconds.

In the Youth Boys race Harry Hardcastle (Kirklees Cycling Academy) delivered another strong performance to finish seventh in the Under 14 section and Louis Cook (Holme Valley Wheelers) finished a strong fifth in the Under 12 section race.

In the Under 10 Boys Henry Hollyman (KCA) was seventh, while Fin Cooper started strongly but had to retire through illness.

Ella Hampson (Huddersfield Star Wheelers) finished an impressive third in the Girls race.
