ROB ARMITAGE went so close to bagging the season’s best break when he cleared the table with a superb 80 to defeat Newsome’s Brian Rattigan in the latest round of Huddersfield Open Snooker fixtures.

With his Marsh Liberal Club side already leading 3-0, Armitage played the final frame and after making a modest 28 break, then stepped into clear up with 80 to win 133-64 and complete a 4-0 whitewash.

Unfortunately, for the Marsh man however, it was still eight behind Robert Read’s top mark of 88 set earlier in the season.
