ROBERT READ faces a massive test against a former English Amateur champion as he bids for a place in the quarter-finals of the CIU National Snooker championship.

The Lindley WMC player, who eased to a 3-0 win over Dewsbury’s George Mack in the previous round, has been drawn against Doncaster’s Mark Rowing – but at least he has the bonus of having home advantage despite also being at home against Mack.

“Usually if you have a home draw in one round, you can expect to be away in the next round, but I think a lot of home players must have won this time in the earlier round, so I’m lucky to be at home again,” said the current Huddersfield Open champion.

“I’ve played Rowing twice before and lost both times to him, so I know it’s going to be tough to get through.

“But this will be the first time I’ve played him on my own board, and I fancy my chances against anyone at home.”

The date has yet to be finalised, but is likely to be early to mid-March.

The semi-final line-up for the Huddersfield Billiards Championship has now been finalised, with Tony Clegg overcoming David Peaker this week 600-324 with a best break of 65.

The final four comprises the entire Huddersfield No1 squad, Clegg, Rob Armitage, Brian Cousen and Julian Hodge, the draw for which will be made next month.
