ROB ARMITAGE ended 2011 on a high note with two half-century breaks in the Open Billiards League, which he also matched in an Open Snooker League match, although in the latter case, it didn’t prevent him going down to defeat.

Playing for Springwood in the Billiards League, Armitage hit breaks of 59 and 56 to earn his side a solitary point in the match against Lindley Liberal Club’s B team.

It wasn’t the highest however, as David Peaker knocked in a 75 break in Brockholes’ win over Bradley & Colne’s Mick Patmore, while Peaker’s son Matthew, the current Huddersfield champion, enjoyed breaks of 68, 36 and 32 on the way to beating Frank Griffin.

Meanwhile, another of the stalwart Billiards League players Brian Cousen was on form with a 63 break to beat Berry Brow’s Richard Steer.

Back in the Snooker League, Armitage (playing for Marsh Liberal Club) signed off the first half of the season with a 56 break, but it was not enough to stave off defeat to Golcar RBL’s James Shaw, the home side winning 3-1.

The League’s now take a break until January 2, when the Veterans’ Snooker League resume action, with the Billiards League starting the following night and the Open Snooker League on January 5.
