LOCKWOOD PARK are the Kirklees and Calderdale Squash League Division IV champions, having gone through the entire season unbeaten.
The A team squad won all their 14 League matches, accruing 268 out of a possible 280 points to earn a place in Division III next season.
Coach Malcolm Pickup who also runs Lockwood Park Academy Squash said: “I’m delighted for the team, who overcame injury and illness at the start of the season, but have continued to train very hard, and have shown great commitment and dedication.”
Queens 5 and Old Crossleyans 6 were Lockwood Park’s main rivals but both were brushed aside as the Huddersfield team, comprising Alistair Brown, David Williamson, Sean Cashman, David Cooper, Liam Robinson, Glenn Crisp and Stuart Land were front-runners all season. Lockwood Park’s B team were in the same division, and will finish in a respectable mid-table position.
“I am really pleased with the progress we have made, not only with regard to our League status, but also within the club in general,” added Pickup. “The members have welcomed the chance to watch competitive local squash and along with the management committee the club have been very supportive in the Academy Squash progress.
“Next season we are adding an extra men’s team, plus a ladies team and teams and members will train during the summer under coaches, Martin Sunderland, Nigel Simpson, Matt Thorpe and Luke Butterworth.”
