STAINLAND Lions running club are once again organising their Boxing Day Fun from the Red Lion in the village (near Outlane) on Saturday, December 26.

It’s the 23rd year of the event, and they are once again hoping to set another record entry.

Organisers view the event as an ideal way to have a good time, run off the excesses of the previous day and help charities over the festive season.

The run is open to everyone – including pushchair pushers and dog walkers! – and all finishers get a medal.

Fancy dress is encouraged and has become more popular and more outrageous each year, with a special prize for the best costume.

The race starts at 11.00, with the Red Lion opening for registration and hot drinks from 9.30.

Following the race there is a charity auction in the pub – a fun event in itself.

In previous years the lots have ranged from unwanted Christmas socks to plane rides.

Over £30,000 has been raised from the race for good causes, and this year the chosen charities are Martin House children's hospice and the Candlelighters.

Stainland Lions are hoping for big support for the race, which is again sponsored by Yorkshire Building Society.
