THONGSBRIDGE Tennis Club youngster Steph Carter’s hard work is paying off.

A stylish player, she produced some superb tennis in the Under 14 Winter Regional Tour event at Carnegie Tennis Centre, Leeds.

Steph saw off some strong opposition and took the winner’s medal, without even dropping a set.

The club’s impressive Under 9s have been keeping busy, attending an array of events around the country.

George Barton, Jacob Chadwick and Charlotte Margetson all competed in the regional tour event in Lancashire, securing some excellent wins.

Barton was fourth in the main draw, while Margetson won the consolation draw and Chadwick was fourth in the same section.

Robert Sandiford played the regional tour in Sheffield, where he had a couple of solid wins.

Playing in the lower grade county tour events, Barton managed third place in West Bridgeford, Margetson fourth in Manchester and Chadwick fifth in Batley.

For the Under 10s, Oliver Vesely was in fine form in the county tour event in Lancashire, where he too took top spot. Lucy Margetson won the consolation draw.

In the regional tour event in Manchester, Vesely did well to come second in a tough draw. Margetson was third in Warrington.

Andrew Atkinson played events in Sheffield and Bolton, Under 16 and 18 respectively, and after a slow start, losing his first-round matches, he went on to win the consolation draw in both.

With the prestigious Thongsbridge Open looming in February, the club’s competitive youngsters will be honing their skills and hoping to peak at the right time on home turf.
