TOP Borough of Kirklees swimmer Ryan Flanagan is being backed financially in his bid to make the 2012 Olympics thanks to a financial grant from Kellogg’s.

Yorkshire teammates Flanagan and Matthew Johnson, from the City of Leeds, have both received grants from Kellogg’s through its Swim Active Fee Grants.

The duo received the awards for their performances at the Amateur Swimming Association’s National Age Group Championships, which were held in Sheffield back in July.

Johnson came first in the BAGCAT points category for 13-year-olds, while Flanagan came third in the same category, with the simmers expected to use their cash grants to help with training costs.

BAGCAT points are used to calculate the best individual swimmer of the competition by rewarding swimmers who compete in many events and show all-round ability.
