THE CSD Logistics Cup produced some cracking matches – no fewer than four being decided by fewer than 10 points.

This handicap competition allows for a little nostalgia to creep back into the sport by adopting the traditional scoring system of 21-up.

Teams of three players play each other over two games to 21 points. The player handicap is added on to each game score to give an aggregate, which is accumulated through the match.

Handicaps range from -14 for top players such as Darren Lindley and Tim Dyson through to +16 for beginners.

Closest tie of the round was between Marsh E and U3A, where just one point put Marsh through.

Neil Dawson’s very best form reappeared for the evening and caught his Third Division opponents off guard at times in a tight contest.

Wilshaw C travelled to Scissett B and came away victors by just four points – another good victory for youngsters Daniel Hamer, Andy Brooke and the not-so-young Barry Simmons, whose game continues to improve.

New North Road Baptist A team, full of beginners, fell just seven points short of beating First Division side Kingsmith B, whereas their B team needed much more help from the handicappers – losing by 70 points to Second Division Kingsmith D.

David Brown A won a close match with fellow top-flight side Kingsmith PW by just eight points.

Third Division Wilshaw B produced an excellent all-round team performance to beat Second Division Golcar Liberals by 75 points.

Robin Sissons won all his matches before handicap and was well backed by Barry Lockwood and Graham Hudson.

Woodfield Park A proved too strong for Scissett WMC A, with Darren Lindley’s fast serves proving too good, especially since his opponents had series’ of five serves to contend with.

Kingsmith F were another side to progress, beating Wilshaw A by 15 points, while Wilshaw D went down by 32 points to Kingsmith C.

The inclusion of Shaun Ellis helped Brooks B to defeat Kingsmith E by 29 points.

In the latest round of Yorkshire League matches, it was a case of won one, lost one and drew one for the Huddersfield Veterans sides.

The victory came for the Second team at Scarborough where they won 6-4 – Ian Tweedale (3) Dave Wood (2) plus a Wood/Tweedale doubles win secured the points, Phil Schofield having an off-day.

The Third team went down 7-3 to a strong Bradford II side, Mike Belk and Barry Drain both won once and combined for a doubles win but Brian Armitage was a shade unlucky to finish without a win, especially losing out narrowly to Mick Kosmowsky in a five-game set which lasted for an hour and 20 minutes!

Geoff Dunne, who is registered with Kingsmith A but has not featured this season, was in outstanding form for Bradford, winning all three matches.

The Fourth team were held to a 5-5 draw by bottom side Ryedale, strengthened by the impressive Ian Stansfield who was undefeated. For Huddersfield, Keith Skarz and Francis Cioffi both won two and Peter Walker one.

In Division Two, Deighton B gave a powerful performance in beating Kingsmith D 8-2. Tomasz Pietrzyz maintained his 100% record, supported by three from Rafel Aleksandrzak.
