GREGORY FIELDS continued their unbeaten start to the Huddersfield and District Tennis League season to keep the pressure on Premier Division leaders Huddersfield B.

However, they had to earn their 10-5 success over Rastrick A in testing weather conditions.

In a gusting wind the match got off to a tight start with the teams locked at 3-3 after the opening sets, but Fields began to pull away in the later matches.

The final round was played in fading light with Fields managing the conditions well enough to cruise to victory.

In Division Three of the Ladies League, Huddersfield C moved to the top of the table after edging out Thongsbridge D 10-8 at Edgerton.

Honours were even in the opening round with Huddersfield’s first pair overcoming the Thongsbridge duo, only for the visitor’s third pair to level matters after the second pairings had shared the points.

In the second round Huddersfield forged ahead and led by 8-4 after two rounds.

Thongsbridge were not going to give up easily and hit back and it was only Huddersfield’s third pairing’s dogged determination that earned them victory.
