TWO victories for Tim Dyson was not enough to save Huddersfield table tennis champions Brooks from crashing out of the Yorkshire Clubs’ Championship at the semi-final stage, beaten 8-2 at Hull YPI.

Russell Senior opened up for the visitors but was outhit by Chris Clinton in straight sets, while Philip Schofield fared no better against the aggressive Sean Moddam, and although Dyson steadied it with a 3-0 win over Dave Randleson, three more defeats in succession virtually put Brooks out of the contest.

Several of the matches were closely fought, Senior and Dyson both going the distance in their second matches and Dyson had another win over Roddam. But defeat to Clinton and Moddam in the double sealed the visitors’ fate.

Hull now face Harrogate Ripley Star in the final at Dewbury table tennis centre on March 26.
