THE POLICE B team leapfrogged Kingsmith 200+ into second place in Section 2B of the Huddersfield Table Tennis League after pulling off a 6-4 victory at the Kingsmith Eng venue.
Veteran Geoff Heywood scored well with his backhand flicks, and went the full distance of five games, but his opponent Derick Moorhouse scored well with forehand smashes and a nasty side-spin push stroke which helped him edge the fifth 11-9.
Gerry Kerr put Kingsmith back on level terms when he proved too steady for an erratic Janet West but Steve Knott again put Woodfield Park Police back on top with victory in a five-set thriller against Rod Wright.
Kerr and Heywood bounced back to give Kingsmith the lead for the first time, but then Police took a grip on the match, West playing a key role in edging out Wright, while Knott defeated Kerr in straight games, as did Moorhouse against Wright.
And the same two Police players teamed up in the doubles to defeat Kerr and Heywood and ensure victory, which puts them level on points with Kingsmith, but ahead on outright wins, and games won.
