KINGSMITH Engineers were pushed all the way by relegation-threatened Deighton LS A in a tightly-contested game which ended 6-4 to the home side in the Huddersfield Table Tennis League.

Top-of-the-table Kingsmith were put under immediate pressure when Chris Williams lost the opening set to Kevin Senior after a thrilling four-game encounter.

However, the home side battled back with Janet Adams and Peter Fox both completing a trio of wins.

Adams was totally dominant throughout, outclassing all of the Deighton opponents with a flurry of superb forehand smashes and never giving an inch.

Williams gave his all, but ran out of steam in his games and unfortunately, lost all three.

Deighton did grab a consolation when Barry Drain and John Cooke overcame Adams and Fox in the doubles game in an enthralling finish.

Elsewhere, entry forms for this year’s Huddersfield Closed Championships to be held at Newsome Sports College, are now being accepted.

The closing date for entries is March 31, with the competition taking place on April 17.

The events available are: men’s singles, men’s doubles, veterans singles, handicap singles, juniors and ladies events. All start at 9.30am.
