BATLEY prospect Carrie Wagstaff is celebrating a Sellers International title.

And in winning the competitive Girls 18 and Under section from being a qualifier, she has put herself in the running for the Performance of the Week trophy.

Wagstaff has shown terrific form all week at Huddersfield Lawn Tennis and Squash Club and, in the final, it didn’t desert her.

She scored a fine 6-2 6-3 win over Masham’s Ellie Makin to take the title.

Unfortunately for Wagstaff in the ladies singles, she found No1 seed Jo Craven from Leeds too hot to handle and went out 6-3 6-0, but that did not detract from her display against her age-group peers.

The other title decided was in the Girls 14 and Under section, where Yasmina El Sayed from Leicester took the trophy.

She was No2 seed but came through against No1 Klara Moolman, of Norfolk.

All the men’s seeds went through to the semi-finals, with No1 Dan Sinclair of Thongsbridge beating the 6ft 7in Jordan Thompson 6-2 6-4.

No2 Nathan Jones (Oldham) went through 6-2 6-0 against Nick Bond, No3 Sean Stafford (Huddersfield) beat Jamie Sordyl 6-1 6-2 and defending champion Mike Tolman beat Christopher Prince without dropping a game.

After Craven’s win against Wagstaff in the Ladies Singles, she will now meet her sister Georgina in the semis.

Georgina beat Amy Partridge 6-2 6-1, while Emily Rodbourne reached the semis by beating Huddersfield’s Caroline Mount to two and love while Emily Singleton, the No2 seed, was taken to three sets by ‘lucky loser’ Rebecca Wood, before going through 6-1 2-6 6-3.

Huddersfield’s Euan Wilson-Baig is through to today’s Finals Day, where he will contest the Boys 10s last four after winning his round-robin group against William Hart and Raphael Roberts.

In the Girls 10s, Huddersfield duo Katie Morton and Hannah Boden are also through.

In the Mixed Doubles, Huddersfield’s Victoria Cran is celebrating a place in the semi-finals with partner Nathan Jones after they beat Thongsbridge duo Kim Atkinson and Nathan Sinclair 6-3 1-6 6-4. They will now meet top seeds Dan Sinclair and Danielle Brown (Thongsbridge).

No2 seeds Mike Tolman and Caroline Mount play Nick Bond and Jo Craven in the other semi after they came through 6-2 2-6 6-2 against home-club pairing Charlotte Kershaw and Tom Wigley.

In the Men’s 45s, mention must go to Andrew Douglas, who is still battling for the title after coming through two tie-break matches and playing over five hours of tennis in the one day.

And James Elliott of Bedford has had an excellent run through to today’s final of the Boys 16s, having lost in the semis of the 18s.

Meanwhile, there are 27 players contesting the finals of the competition’s new sections for 8 and Under and 9 and Under.
