MIKE TOLMAN is back as top seed in the Sellers International tennis tournament at Huddersfield Lawn Tennis and Squash Club.

The Huddersfield player – who won the Yorkshire men’s singles title last year – took the Edgerton crown in 2010 but was unable to defend it last year because of work commitments.

He is back at the top of the pile this year, however, in the post-Wimbledon tournament which is under way every day this week at the Cemetery Road venue with finals on Friday and Saturday.

Lancashire’s Phil Whalley is No2 seed in the men’s, while two Thongsbridge players – Holly Horsfall and Kim Atkinson – are the No1 and No2 seeds respectively in the ladies.

Spectators are welcome to watch all week, with refreshments available, but the miserable weather has so far forced most matches onto the indoor courts.

The youngest age groups have played so far, and the Veseley family from Thongsbridge have had double success.

Dominic Veseley, from the Holme Valley club, won the Under 8s, which was run as a mixed competition.

Oliver Veseley won the Under 9 boys title, while Jessica Dawson took the Under 9 girls first prize.

The 12s and 16s were played yesterday for the boys, with the girls in those age groups competing today.

Tomorrow it’s the 14s and 18s boys, with the girls playing those age groups on Thursday.

The boys and girls 10s will be played on Friday, while senior competitions will take place every evening this week.
