HUDDERSFIELD’s Mike Tolman is king of the Sellers International tournament.

Seeded No4 this year, the Honley-based 26-year-old beat top seed Dan Sinclair of Thongsbridge 6-3 6-2 to take his fourth successive men’s singles title at the Edgerton event.

Tolman was also a winner in the men’s doubles, partnering Thongsbridge coach Tom Sanders to a 6-7 6-4 6-4 win over Sean Stafford (Huddersfield) and Nathan Jones (Oldham).

There was an equally strong performance from Jo Craven of Leeds to win the ladies singles, beating Emily Rodbourne 6-2 6-3 in the final, while the ladies doubles crown went to Danielle Brown of Thongsbridge and partner Elizabeth Thomas (Kent), who beat Huddersfield’s Victoria Cran and Emily Singleton (Stockport) 6-1 6-1.

Brown was also a winner in the mixed, partnering Thongsbridge clubmate Dan Sinclair to victory.

There was some excellent play in the veterans events, with David Brown (Harrogate) beating Miles Collett (Doncaster) in the men’s 45s showpiece.

Brown followed that up with success in the doubles but only after a match tie-break, partnering Alan Cockman to a 7-5 2-6 10-7 success against Stuart Gill and Nick Holloway of the host Huddersfield Lawn Tennis and Squash Club.

The mixed doubles 45s was an all-Huddersfield affair, with Martin and Claire Hambleton beating Neil and Christine Baldwin, again with a match tie-break, 6-4 1-6 10-7.

Huddersfield’s Euan Wilson-Baig came up just short in the Boys 10s event, losing the final to Aaron Yang on a match tie-break 4-2 2-4 10-6.

Clubmate Katie Morton won the Girls 10s with a 2-4 4-2 10-6 margin, while in the Boys 12s final, Jake Fisher beaten James Oakes 6-2 6-4.

Andrew Atkinson of Thongsbridge is celebrating the Boys 14s title after a 6-0 6-1 win in the final against Charlie Hutchings, while the Boys 16s title went to Bedfordshire’s James Elliott, who beat Huddersfield’s Harry Edwards 7-5 6-3. Luke Johnson from Leeds took the Boys 18s title 7-6 6-0 against Simon Howson of Sheffield.

In the two new mixed events for 9 and Under and 8 and Under, respective winners were Tom Dillon and Ephraim Baruch Roberts against Dominic Robinson (8-6 7-3) and George Barton (10-7).

The Performance of the Week award went to 18-year-old Carrie Wagstaff of Batley, who went all the way through qualifying to win the Girls 18s title.

Huddersfield head coach Becky Lee, who was referee at the event, said: “We had a fantastic finals day and it’s been a really good Sellers tournament.

“Mike Tolman did superbly to win the men’s yet again, but Carrie took the performance of the week award and there was some terrific tennis all the way through.”
