Bronte Murgett and Kim Atkinson of Thongsbridge are celebrating titles at the Fruitypot Huddersfield Open tennis tournament.

Murgett took the 18 & Under Girls crown against Eve Daniels – but it was a real battle over two hours and 45 minutes.

The Thongsbridge player took the first set 7-6, but Daniels hit back to take the second 7-5.

In the decider, Murgett came through 10-6.

Atkinson won her title alongside Ilkley’s Isabelle Hearnshaw in the Women’s Doubles.

They defeated Stephanie Carter (Thongsbridge) and Rebecca Hill 6-4 6-2.

Carter teams up with clubmate Dan Sinclair in the Mixed Doubles final to take on another Thongsbridge pairing – Andrew and Kim Atkinson.

Sinclair and Carter beat Huddersfield’s Joe Abram and Kate Mallin 7-6 7-6 in the semi-finals.

Mike Tolman and Ben Gudzelak from the Edgerton-based host club are into the final of the Men’s Doubles having beaten father and son duo Paul and Finn Ranson 6-4 6-4.

They will play with winners of the outstanding semi-final between Atkinson and Sinclair and the Cheshire pairing of Lewis Denton and Charlie Kilbride.

The 18 & Under Boys title went to No1 seed Sean Hodkin, who beat Huddersfield’s Euan Wilson-Baig 6-4 6-3 in the showpiece.

In the Women’s Singles, Murgett is through to the last eight and will face Hill, with the winner going on to tackle No4 seed Emily Sim.

In the other matches, Abigail Wild plays Natalie Wall, Zoe Judkowski faces Esther Jones for the right to play Hearnshaw, and Jayanne Palmer takes on Cheshire 13-year-old Ellie Aldrich.
