With only two weeks left of the Huddersfield & District Tennis League season, things are already taking shape with many of the promotion and relegation battles already decided.

In Ladies Division I, Thongsbridge A have gone through the season so far unbeaten to retain their title.

Marsden A and Grove A are the two teams who already know their fate.

In Ladies Division II, Thongsbridge C and Batley ITI are already guaranteed promotion, but with only two points between them the title is still undecided.

At the bottom, any two teams of four could still face the drop.

Ladies Division III remains tight, with Shepley A, Oakfield A and Denby Dale A all fighting for the two promotion places. With Huddersfield D already relegated, Tingley, Batley ITI B and Rastrick B are all trying to avoid the remaining place for relegation.

Thongsbridge E are already promoted as champions of Ladies Division IV, with Holmfirth B, Grove B and Cleckheaton all still in with a chance of taking the second place.

Any two of the bottom four, Thongsbridge F, Longley C, Shepley B and Linthwaite Methodist A, are all trying to avoid the drop.

In Ladies Division V, after losing out last season through a play-off to Shepley B, Linthwaite B were determined to go up this season.

Now with two teams in the league, the club is growing in strength.

Linthwaite B are already runaway leaders in the section and took another step towards promotion when they beat Marsden B (relegated from Division IV last season) 12-0.

First pair Mel Hill and Kate Bradshaw beat Marsden’s captain Sophie Byram and Nicky Thompson 6-2, 6-1, while second couple Alison Waters and Janette Singh won against mother Sarah and daughter Emily Newell 6-2, 6-1.

Third couple captain Vicki Smith and Angela Mitchell also took both sets 6-0, 6-1 against Hannah Elliott and Kristina Konstantinova.

With already six sets in the bag, Linthwaite continued their form to see out the match.

Denby Dale B and Oakfield B are looking for the second promotion place.

In Men’s Division I, it’s a three-way fight for the title between Marsden A, Batley A and Thongsbridge A, with five points covering the three and only two matches to play.

At the bottom, any two from four could still be relegated with Huddersfield A, Thongsbridge B, Thornhill A and Liversedge A having all to play for.

Men’s Division II looks like a fight between the top three of Shepley A, Mirfield A and Thongsbridge C, while at the bottom any two of the bottom five could still be relegated.

Hillside A and Denby Dale A are already promoted in Men’s Division III. At the bottom, Huddersfield C have withdrawn and that leaves Holmfirth A’s position looking precarious.

Men’s Division IV features Linthwaite A, Batley B and Longley B still in with a chance of promotion, while at the bottom Denby Dale B and Cleckheaton B are already relegated.

Mirfield A are promoted as champions of Men’s Division V, with Marsden C and Thornhill B separated only by a single point in the race for second place. Batley C and Tingley looks favourites for the drop.

Men’s Division VI is more straghtforward with Holmfirth B and Gregory Fields C already promoted and both now playing for the title.
