Rastrick wheelchair athlete Georgina Oliver is on her way to the European Championships.

The event takes place in Swansea on August 19 and 20 and the 21-year-old is competing in the 100m and 400m wheelchair races in the T54 classification.

“I’m really looking forward to it and I’m hoping to medal,” said Georgina, who has been competing for the last six years.

“I’m training every day and if I can go to Swansea and get among the medals then I’ll be pleased.”

The 100m is Georgina’s strongest event and, when she represented Great Britain in the World Championships in Lyon last year, she did the 100m and 200m.

Unfortunately, there is no 200m in Swansea, so she has had to opt for the 400m as her second event.

“It’s 1500m and the longer events after that and those are not for me – I’m just a sprinter,” she explained.

“Now that it’s getting closer I just can’t wait to get down there and start racing.”
