Crow Nest Park’s Mitchell Memorial Trophy attracted a record attendance of 112 players.

This year it was won with a score reflecting the ethos of the competition, which is an event which can be enjoyed by everyone, and reflective of the late Trevor Mitchell`s enjoyment of the game.

The day dawned with a relatively hard frost on the greens, but by the time the winning team of Eddie Hirst, Eddie Spencer, Martin Thomas and Baz Crossley started their round, conditions had warmed up.

Their front nine score of 12 under par was never going to be beaten and they finished with a tremendous final score of 19 under for the round. This was all the more impressive in a blustery wind, firm but true greens and some difficult pin positions.

In runners-up spot was the team of Tom and Les Holmes, Jon Stark and Steve Yendley with a score of 14 under. Club captain, Mick Wolfenden, presented the trophy to the winning team before an evening of celebration.

Nearest the pin on the fifth hole was won by Nicky Day, and the prize for the nearest on the 17th hole went to Steve Horsfall.
