AUSTEN BARROWCLOUGH of Netherton has been called up to represent Serbia at rugby league in the forthcoming European Cup.

Barrowclough has already represented Serbia five times at Under 18 and full international level and has scored a try in every match he has played.

The European Cup, however, will be a particularly tough challenge for the developing Serbian Side.

They have been paired in the group stages with Ireland, who will be captained by new Giants signing Scott Grix, and Wales, with both sides boasting squads full of players with Super League experience.

The Serbs will be travelling to Whitehaven for a week-long training camp with their coach, Ged Stokes, who is also the Whitehaven chief.

They then travel to Tullamore in Southern Ireland to play the Irish on October 18 followed by the Welsh in Belgrade seven days later.

The Championship final will be held in Bridgend on November 8.

There are no Pennine League fixtures this weekend because of the Super League Grand Final.
