THERE was a special birthday treat for St Joseph’s A team skipper Patrick Mitchell as his side won the Pennine League Supplementary Cup final.

On his 50th birthday Mitchell led his side to a 10-6 victory over Wibsey A at Dewsbury’s Rams Stadium.

For Division VI outfit Joes it was a win against the odds as they faced a Wibsey side who are currently second in the division above, but a man-of-the-match winning display from 16-year-old full back Luke James saw the underdogs claim the cup.

After a first half that ended without a point being scored, it was the Bradford outfit who took the lead with a converted try.

However, a touchdown cut their lead and Joes then got themselves in front with a converted try.

However, Joes had a late scare as in the dying minutes Wibsey scored under the posts only for the referee to disallow the try for a forward pass.
