MELTHAM All Blacks gained revenge for a defeat at Silsden Park Rangers earlier in the season as they secured an 18-16 Division V victory in their penultimate game .

Both sets of forwards worked hard to gain the early dominance and it took a great run from Jason Oldfield to break the deadlock.

That created the position for the supporting Adam Lodge, who was playing at hooker for the first time, to cross for his first try of the season. Rob Lewis converted.

And with the momentum with Meltham, hard-working Paul Carmody added his side’s second try to make it 10-0 at the break.

Silsden hit back at the start of the second half with two unanswered tries before the All Blacks responded with a Lewis penalty to level the scores.

From the restart Jason Pedelty broke down the left only to be brought back for a forward pass, but minutes later they were not to be denied as Ryan White latched onto a kick-through to score under the posts.

The visitors did hit back again to set up a nervous finish, but the All Blacks held on for an excellent win in which Silsden nominated full-back David Roebuck as best back and loose-forward Lewis as best forward.

Meltham’s own man-of-the-match was Carmody, who never stopped working all game.
