EMLEY MOOR will be hoping to put a bitterly disappointing campaign behind them when they host Huddersfield rivals Slaithwaite Saracens in the second round of the President’s Cup tomorrow.

The side from the Welfare Ground find themselves rooted to the foot of the Pennine League Championship Division table with just one win from their opening 12 League fixtures.

They were also knocked-out of the Holliday Cup at the semi-final stage by Premier Division Slaithwaite 13 days ago.

But this weekend they have the chance to gain the sweetest of revenge and finally kick-start a season which brought so much frustration at the back end of 2011.

The fact there’s an all-Huddersfield Cup clash means there will be at least one of the town’s teams in the draw for the third round – with Newsome Panthers hoping there’ll be a second.

The Division I promotion chasers travel to Championship club Ossett Trinity, but the fact their hosts are second bottom of the table with just two wins from their opening 12 games will give them tremendous hope.

On top of that, Newsome have already shown they are capable of beating sides from a higher division this season – as St Joseph’s discovered to their cost in the Holliday Cup last October!

And, further down the track, a third Huddersfield club could be involved in the third-round mix in the shape of Lindley Swifts, although they must first beat fellow Division I side Dearne Valley Bulldogs at home in a re-arranged first-round tie this weekend.

Revenge will be very much on the minds of Underbank Rangers when they continue their bid for Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy glory tomorrow.

The men from The Cross will be smarting from their Third Division top-of-the-table defeat at Queen’s A six days ago, but they can get their own back when they entertain their big Leeds rivals second time around.

Also in knock-out action this weekend are Meltham All Blacks and Emley Moor A in the second round of the Supplementary Cup.

The Fifth Division All Blacks will be looking to make home advantage count against second-placed Division VI side Sherburn Bears, while Division VII strugglers Moor travel to Farnley Falcons A, who are involved in the title scrap at the other end of that particular table.

Back in the Pennine League, St Joseph’s go in search of Premier Division glory at fellow strugglers Clayton, while Joe’s second string host Burley Lions in Division V.

There’s a derby clash in Division IV, with the Panthers and Saracens ready to lock horns in Newsome, and in Division VII Underbank A are at Greetland All Rounders A.
