EMLEY MOOR experienced mixed emotions in their Pennine League fixtures.

While the first team were losing 42-12 in Division I West, the club’s second string recorded their first victory of the season in Division VI with a 50-14 win over Wyke A Scissett.

The margin of the final scoreline should have been larger, but Moor’s execution at times let them down.

Jack Dyson, James Teal, and Robbie Hepworth all scored fine braces, while Simon Davies, Taff Barron and Robert Kaskawietz all touched down for one each.

Jack Dyson kicked three goals, alongside Kaskawietz who banged over four conversions to complete a fine individual game for the stand-off.

Special mention must go to Paul Donkersley who ran his blood to water at loose forward in his first season with the club.

There was also a first victory of the season for Newsome Panthers, who opened their Second Division account with a 16-10 win at Keighley Town.

But, very disappointingly, Moldgreen were forced to concede their game at Wortley Dragons, who were handed a 30-0 walkover result.

In Division V, Meltham All Blacks were unable to build on their opening-day success as they lost 14-10 at Burley Lions, despite putting in a good performance.

Meltham opened the scoring after withstanding a lot of pressure from Burley.

Rob Lewis made a well-supported break down the right side of the field giving Ryan White an inside pass that put him through the Burley defence.

Unfortunately, the try was unconverted and Burley replied with a try of their own.

A Rob Lewis penalty on the stroke of half time gave the visitors a slight advantage, but Burley struck back with a second try to take the lead with 15 minutes remaining.

This set up a thrilling finale, especially when Paul Carmody drove across the line to swing the pendulum back in Meltham’s favour.

A missed conversion and then a mix up in communication at the kick instantly gave Burley a two-point lead that they were able to hang onto until the final whistle.

Meltham’s man-of-the-match was Ross White.

In contrast, there was no problem for Newsome A, who ran riot to thrash Halifax Irish A 72-0
