UNDERBANK Rangers are confident of getting their bitterly disappointing play-off defeat by Bramley Buffaloes out of their system and booking a place in the Co-operative Conference National League grand final on Sunday week.

Player-coach Richard Knight’s men entertain Nottingham Outlaws at The Cross tomorrow (2.30), when victory in the final eliminator will set up a dream final rematch with Bramley at Warrington’s Halliwell Jones Stadium.

That potential showdown would also give Rangers the chance to gain revenge after a late Buffaloes’ charge took them straight through to the final following their dramatic 30-24 triumph.

And Knight is confident victory can be achieved against the Outlaws – they beat Featherstone Lions 32-24 in the elimination semi-final last weekend – and that his side can have another shot at downing their West Yorkshire rivals in the most important game of the season

“The excellent season we’ve had has enabled us to have a second bite of the cherry, which this time we will take with both hands and play like we have done at home all season,” he said.

“At home this year we’ve not lost a game and only dropped one point, and that’s how we want it to continue.

“We didn’t play as a team last week at Bramley and, on the day, we were beaten by the better team.

“This second chance lets us put a few wrongs right and book our place in the grand final.

“Unfortunately, this week we will be missing Lee St Hilaire, who is unavailable, and Tom Sharrock, who has broke a bone in his foot, but we welcome back Sam Housley to our squad of 20.

“Nottingham will come here full of confidence after a good victory at home to Hemel and an even better win last week against a very tough Featherstone side.

“We know we will be in an arm wrestle for 80 minutes, but the lads are relishing the challenge of knockout football with the prize of a place in the grand final.”

Although Underbank’s play-off clash takes centre stage, there are a number of other amateur rugby league fixtures involving Huddersfield clubs taking place tomorrow.

Leading the way are St Joseph’s, at home in the Pennine League Premier Division against Crigglestone All Blacks, when coach Keith Senior’s men will be looking to open their top-flight account.

In Division I, Emley Moor are at home to Keighley Town, while Slaithwaite Saracens travel to Wyke.

Second Division leaders Newsome Panthers will look to make it four wins out of four when they take part in arguably the match of the day at home to Huddersfield rivals Moldgreen.

Lindley Swifts travel to Liversedge in Division III, and Division IV side Underbank host Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks.

In-form Meltham All Blacks are at Wibsey Warriors in Division V, while there’s a Division VI derby between Slaithwaite and St Joseph’s. Emley Moor go to Burley Lions.

And in Division VII, Underbank visit Bradford and Bingley Pumas.
