BRIGHOUSE Rangers Under 13s took on old foe’s West Bowling in a Yorkshire Junior Rugby League Division II clash at Russell Way and notched a 52-0 victory.
Conditions were poor but the rain held off long enough to see Brighouse complete a comprehensive victory over a Bowling side that had beaten them earlier in the season.
Sam Bourouh opened the scoring followed by neat work from Tristan Fallowfield to score a try and make it a 10-0 lead.
West Bowling never troubled the Rangers defence and tries from Alex Tankard and Bourouh gave Rangers a 30-point lead at half-time.
West Bowling never gave in but could not match the Rangers strength and skill with ball in hand and there was a strong display from new recruit Ben Dickinson, who had an excellent all-round game on his debut.
Newsome Panthers’ Under 10 side were brave in defeat as they lost 24-46 to Drighlington.
After failing to make an impact in the first half, Newsome put on a resilient second half display – at one point looking like they may stage a dramatic comeback.
After conceding an early try following a knock-on, the home side had a first half to forget conceding four tries.
The second half brought an early try for the away side, but the Panthers rallied, and good play from Lewis Murphy allowed James Johnson to score Newsome’s first try.
Another try for Johnson, along with a tries from Louis Pasquier and Matthew Shufflebotham left the Panthers trailing by 16 points, but they were soon further behind, however, after an error allowed the away side to increase the deficit.
Newsome continued to battle, and an improved performance from Aiden Bennett led to a late try from Ethan Corian, but it was not enough for them to overcome their opponents.
