THE question already being asked in Pennine League Division I is who can beat in-form leaders Slaithwaite Saracens?

After watching visitors Clayton loosening up before their latest game it looked as if they could be a leading candidate, especially as they were third in the table.

But by the end of the contest, Saracens had made a mockery of that prediction as they romped to a 68-0 victory.

By the 12th minute, Slaithwaite were virtually out of sight, racing in for tries from Darren Hawkyard, Bobby Bahadori and Danny Garside, who also added a goal, to make their intentions crystal clear.

Just as in previous weeks, tries continued to be scored at regular intervals, and the home side were 44-0 ahead at the break after further scores from Hawkyard, Richard Flooks, Nathan Shaw (2) and Stuart Dunbar and goals from Joe Worthington (4) and Garside.

In the second half, Clayton tried their best to save their blushes but were unable to penetrate a rock-solid Saracens defence.

Within 10 minutes of the restart Ritchie Hawkyard showed a clean pair of heels to go over for another try, converted by Garside, and this was quickly followed up by more scores for Sam Crowther, Flooks and Dunbar and goals from Crowther, Bahadori and Lee McAfferty.

And the final try came with 10 minutes remaining, which for a second week resulted in the referee blowing early for time.

Fellow Huddersfield side Emley Moor are also going well in the First Division and produced an outstanding all-round team performance to beat Wyke 54-2 to climb up to third.

The home side dominated from start to finish and by half-time had shot into a matchwinning 28-2 lead.

Dave Pawson set the ball rolling with the opening score before Tom Beaumont, Mark Kingsley, Jason Southwell and Michael Lang followed up with further tries and Karl Adamski added four goals.

In the second half, Moor kept up the pressure to take their tally to 10 tries for the contest, the highlight of which was a first senior score from Oliver Davidson.

There were also tries from Dan Pawson, Tom Beaumont, Daz Southwell and a second for brother Jason.

Adamski landed three more conversions to seal a win in which second-rower Scott Wilkinson and scrum-half Mick Hanmer both deserved to get their names on the scoresheet to crown top displays.
