EMLEY Moor’s second string are celebrating a big 58-0 Division VII derby triumph over Underbank Rangers.

Veteran hooker Taff Barron led the way with a superb hat trick, but he was well backed up by Nick Alderson, Dan Pawson and Oli Davidson, who all scored twice.

Robbie Hepworth also crossed for a try, while John Roebuck added seven goals and Jack Dyson landed two on his return from injury.

But there was a defeat for Moor’s first team as they went down 28-18 to Ackworth Jaguars in a quality Division I encounter.

The outlook was looking bright for the home side at half-time as they led 18-0 thanks to two tries from Jason Southwell and Dave Pawson, who capitalised on some good work from the fit-again Daniel Bedford.

But in the second half their challenge lost its momentum as their impressive visitors turned the screw.

There was also defeat for Meltham All Blacks as they went down 22-6 at Keighley Albion A in Division V.

But the visitors always knew they were going to be up against it as they made the trip with a depleted team.

Of their three replacements, one had just returned to play and another had never played a game of rugby before!

However, the All Blacks never gave up against a Keighley side boosted by a number of first-team players.

And they gained their reward in the second half when Oliver Storey latched onto a kick to score and for man-of-the-match Rob Lewis to convert. Jason Oldfield was the best back.
