EMLEY MOOR and Newsome Panthers were able to savour excellent Second Division successes.

Coach Pete Southwell's Emley secured a second victory of the season with a dominant display to beat Calder Valley 32-16.

And the Panthers backed up last week's victory over Moor by winning 30-24 at Odsal Sedbergh.

Newsome were forced to dig deep for their win, coming back from 18-10 down at the break to triumph.

Two tries from former Giant Ben Feehan and an Alex Burrows goal was all the visitors had to show for their efforts.

But in the second half they took control, with the strong defence of Lee McAfferty with 24 tackles leading the count.

That paved the way for further tries from Feehan to complete his hat trick, man-of-the-match Damien Kenchington, the lively McAfferty and excellent 17-year-old debutant Nathan Chappell, who also made 22 tackles in a solid performance.

It was also a tough encounter for Emley Moor, who had to wait until the final quarter to get the better of Calder Valley.

Prop Nick Whiteley set the ball rolling with an unconverted try.

But Calder Valley hit back to take the lead before a Dave Pawson try made it 8-6 to Moor at the break.

Glen Holdsworth scored his now almost customary try early in the second half and then man-of-the-match Carl Adamski followed up to extend the lead to 10-6 with John Roebuck having added both conversions.

Calder Valley threatened to turn the game on its head when they forced their way back to 20-16.

But two late tries from Ben Adamson, goaled by Roebuck, eventually sealed a very important victory.
