THE New Year gets off to the most explosive of starts on the Huddersfield amateur rugby league front tomorrow, with two re-arranged Holliday Cup quarter-final clashes taking centre stage.

The games between Slaithwaite Saracens and St Joseph's, and Moldgreen and Meltham All Blacks were postponed on December 9 due to waterlogged pitches.

Home clubs Slaithwaite and Moldgreen are both confident there will be no such problems this weekend - and they will also be hopeful of progressing.

Pennine League First Division side Moldgreen, in particular, will be bitterly disappointed if they don't get the better of the Fourth Division All Blacks.

It's clearly going to be much tougher for in-form Division IV side Slaithwaite Saracens against Division I St Joseph's.

But they will be hoping a good Christmas break and home advantage makes a big difference.

Knock-out action is also on the minds of St Joseph's second string tomorrow when they visit Greetland All Rounders A in the first round of the Pennine Supplementary Cup.

For all other Huddersfield teams, it's League action this weekend.

In Division II, the town's two teams are on their travels.

Emley Moor should be hopeful of picking up the points at struggling Odsal Sedbergh, while Newsome Panthers tackle mid-table Ovenden A.

Lindley Swifts couldn't have asked for a tougher start to the new year in Division III as they host leaders Rotherham Roosters, hoping to become only the second side this year to beat the men from South Yorkshire.

Underbank Rangers have the chance to move closer to the leading Division IV pack if they can win at fellow mid-table team Hollinwood.

And in Division V, Moldgreen face a daunting trip to unbeaten leaders Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks, while in Division VI Slaithwaite A travel to Whitworth Spartans A.
