Panthers and Moor run riot!

TWO teams at the very top of their form will do battle in the Supplementary Cup final at Lockwood Park on Sunday.

Emley Moor and Newsome Panthers are both producing their best rugby league of the season in Pennine League Division II.

And that was again re-inforced in their latest round of matches as they rattled up 60 points each in claiming victory.

Emley Moor proved far too strong for Dearne Valley as they secured a 60-12 triumph, while Newsome Panthers did even better in thrashing Ovenden A 60-17.

Moor's victory was based on an outstanding first-half performance as they opened up a 38-0 interval lead.

Scott Wilkinson set the ball rolling with the first of his side's 11 tries as Emley notched up their eighth win of the campaign.

And by half-time, John Roebuck, Dave Pawson (twice), Taff Barron, Glen Holdsworth and Daniel Bedford had all crossed for tries, with Roebuck landing five goals.

Then, after the break, Holdsworth and Pawson both completed their hat tricks and Pawson added his second, with Roebuck (2) and Karl Adamski completing the rout with the conversions.

Newsome's big win has moved them up rapidly to third in the table.

Lee McAfferty and Mark Boothroyd led the victory charge with hat tricks, while James Wallace, Damien Kenchington, Dave Farrell and Simon Birkenshaw also crossed for tries.

Alex Burrows landed seven goals and Boothroyd added three, with Steven Farrell leading the defensive effort with 20 tackles.

In a good team performance there were top individual performances from Wallace, McAfferty and Andy Brick.
