I had thought of using the single word ‘WOW’ repeated 300-plus times for this week’s report. I won’t, though.
However, I will use it once:
I trust we are all still on Cloud Nine?
Still dreaming of Old Trafford?
As we have just found out, dreams do come true!
And what a time for the club to have its Awards Ceremony. The John Smith’s Stadium Revell Ward Suite was truly buzzing.
Yes, the team have finished top of Super League, with Eorl Crabtree, Scott Grix, Brett Ferres, and Leroy Cudjoe all receiving individual awards.
However, Captain Fantastic scooped the majority.
Amongst all the others, Danny Brough is this year’s recipient of HGSA’s Wagstaff Trophy – for the second successive year. Shaun Lunt and Brett Ferres were our second and third choices.
Even better news is the fact Danny has agreed to come along to our AGM on October 8 to have the trophy presented in front of the supporters. Giants managing director Richard Thewlis will also be in attendance as our special guest.
Talking of special people, Rob Thewlis deserves a huge ‘Well Done’ for organising the cards thanking Ken Davy for all he has done – both for the Giants and Huddersfield Town. Rob, HGSA needs you!
Another huge ‘Well Done’ goes to youngsters Ben and Izzy Simpson and Oliver and Georgia Atherton, who were so calm and collected as they drew our prize winners at half-time during Sunday’s big game against Wakefield. They were thrilled to bits to be standing alongside Jennifer Davy.
And, finally, Ken himself.
The 3000 ‘Thank You’ cards were held aloft on Sunday, while another 6,000 people wanted one.
The people of Huddersfield should be proud to have such a person to fight the town’s corner. He has rescued both major sports teams and has a vision for sport which is second to none.
Thank you Jennifer for introducing him to rugby league.
Nominations for our new committee can still be made, either online or through forms from Turnbridge WMC or any committee member.
It is certainly a good time to be a Giant and Fartowner.
