Huddersfield will be looking to produce an even stronger team performance to guarantee success in their first National II North League away clash of the season at Tynedale tomorrow.

That’s the call from attack and backs coach Phil Gostling as the men from Lockwood Park look to build on their 24-17 opening-day triumph over newly-promoted South Leicester.

Huddersfield dominated that contest until the final 10 minutes when the hosts took their foot off the gas and conceded two converted tries.

And Gostling knows that if his players build on the strong team ethic that was on show in the opening 70 minutes, then Huddersfield can make it two wins out of two.

“It was good to get the win last week, but it’s clear we need to keep on improving,” said Gostling, who arrived at Lockwood Park two-and-a-half seasons ago after gaining coaching experience with Cambridge in National League I.

“Although I was pleased with the individual efforts of Elliot Hodgson and Dan Jeffrey, who really stood up when we were playing on the front foot, this was a win which was down to the team effort.

“We’re not a side that’s got out-and-out stars, we’re a very good, gelled squad. That’s going to be the key to our success.

“It’s also a pretty young squad, and I’m excited to see how far we can take this team in the future. The potential’s massive.

“But for now, it’s all about ironing out the problems we saw against South Leicester and making sure we’re much better at Tynedale this weekend.

“An even stronger team performance will make us even more difficult to beat.”

While Huddersfield were beating South Leicester on the opening day, Tynedale were suffering a narrow 20-17 defeat at Leicester Lions.

And they’ll obviously be determined to open their home campaign with a win.
