NEWSOME Panthers have raised over £300 from holding their annual Dads and Lads clash.
A thrilling and deserved victory was eventually secured by the youngsters, whose enthusiastic youth got the better of their experienced opponents.
The Dads may have boasted the likes of former top professionals Darren Fleary and Anthony Farrell.
But they were still unable to steal the contest, with former Giants captain and Great Britain international Fleary proving a marked man.
The Dads did still manage to score tries through Andy Brewster and Trevor Bedeau, while Pete Wallace had a try disallowed and the veterans' man-of-the-match Gary Redfearn came close.
Yet all their efforts proved in vain as the Lads side - which included Under 15s, 16s and 18s players - turned on the style to race over for three excellent tries.
Under 18 James Wallace was the first to strike and then Steve Lockwood, from the 15s, added try No2.
However, the try of the game was scored by Under 16s Alex Chatterton following a break from Ben Dawson to seal the outcome.
