Former international Rugby League referee Richard Silverwood will be partnering ex-Dewsbury Rams assistant coach Simon Hagger, as the coaching team of the new amateur rugby league side Mirfied Stags.
Silverwood, who has been in the middle for three Challenge Cup finals, three Grand Finals and one World Cup final has coaching experience having taken charge of Batley Boys.
Meanwhile, Hagger will be leaving his post as boss of the Penine ARL Championship Division I side St Joseph’s to move back home to Mirfield.
The Mirfield-born duo are optimistic about the future of the side and Silverwood said: “This is a proud moment for me, having lived in Mirfield all of my life.
“To be able to help develop this team and hopefully make this a club the local community can be proud of, is something I am really looking forward to getting my teeth into.
“Hopefully my experience over the years can help this team achieve.”
Counterpart Hagger, who began life at the Rams under Andy Kelly and Ryan Sheridan prior to Warren Jowitt’s appointment, is hoping to instil a winning mentality right from the off.
“I think there is a huge amount of potential for rugby league in Mirfield,” Hagger added.
