JOSH JONES has been an Underbank Rangers player for less than a month.

But the Australian arrival already feels at home in his new Holmfirth surroundings.

He made his debut in last weekend’s 42-18 National Conference League Division III victory at Peterlee Pumas and is determined to build on a rock-solid start.

“I just thought it would be a good change to move away from Australia to somewhere else, and Underbank were very welcoming,” said Jones, who is known to his new teammates as ‘JJ’.

“It’s a great team full of top blokes, and I already feel as if I’ve made the right move.”

But Jones always felt that would be the case, having visited England earlier in his career.

“I started playing for my local team, Stockton Sharks, until the age of 14 then converted to Rugby Union for four years,” he added.

“And it was during that time I first got the chance to come to England.

“I moved here when I was 18 and played with Oxford Rugby Union Club.

“Then I moved back home and started playing Rugby League again with the Waratah Mayfield Cheetahs, Stockton Sharks and Combined Teams Port Stephens Sharks.

“So now I’m back in England and determined to make a positive impression at Underbank.

“I’d love to see Underbank go all the way this year and get promoted to a higher competition.

“Since I got here, the club has been very welcoming and all the boys in the team are legends, they’ve always got time for you.

“It’s a very friendly club and it’s exciting to be a part of a club that looks as though it has a really promising future.”

“All being well, I’d like to remain with the club until the end of next season.”
