A NEW Huddersfield rugby league coaching programme aimed at three to seven-year-olds is proving a massive hit.

Under the guidance of Kevin Bower, initial interest in the ‘rugby4tots’ scheme from schools, children and parents across the town has been phenomenal, with plans now in place to expand the programme.

As a result, former top Huddersfield amateur RL player Bower (and King Fu Panda, the scheme mascot) will next week be visiting nursery and first schools throughout the area to promote new ‘rugby4tots’ clubs that will be set up ahead of the Christmas holidays.

Bower and his team are specifically targeting the HD3 (Longwood/Salendine Nook area) ,HD8 (Emley area) and HD9 (Holmfirth area) areas, with hopes high the high level of interest will continue.

“We’re absolutely delighted by the initial response, although we did have high hopes from the start,” said Bower.

“No longer do boys or girls have to wait until their seventh birthday due to insurance policy throughout amateur rugby before being given the chance to emulate their role models from Super League!”

Each session lasts one hour and there are only 20 places available for each group.

The cost is £17.50 for five consecutive weeks, or £3.50 per session.
